The Awesome Boundless Majesty of God

There are many misconceptions about God.  Many perceive God as sort of a grandfather in the sky, some see Him as sort of like Santa Claus, some see Him as distant and abstract, some see Him as just a figment of our imaginations.  Today, I want to give a more accurate picture of who God is.

One thing we need to understand about God, is that we can not fully understand God:
Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; And His greatness is unsearchable.  Psalm 145:3 NKJV
Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the LORD, The Creator of the ends of the earth, Neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable.  Isaiah 40:28 NKJV
"For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways," says the LORD. "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts." Isaiah 55:8-9 NKJV
Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out! "For who has known the mind of the LORD? Or who has become His counselor?" "Or who has first given to Him And it shall be repaid to him?" For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to whom be glory forever. Amen. Romans 11:33-36 NKJV
From those passages we see that we can not comprehend how great our God is.  We can not begin to understand His understanding and knowledge.  We can not figure out His plans or motivations.  And that is a good thing.  Would you want a God you could comprehend? You may think that you do, but understand the ramifications of a god so limited in power that we, as mere mortals with our mere mortal brains, can figure that god out.  It is encouraging to know that our God is so far beyond us that it is beyond the limits of the brains God created in us to understand.  It's amazing to know that whatever our need, no matter how big it seems to us, no matter how impossible it seems to solve, and no matter how high it seems to us to overcome that it is nothing to our God.  It is nothing because the biggest, most powerful thing we can possibly imagine is not even close to how big God is.  I am eternally blessed to have a God bigger than myself and bigger than anything I can perceive facing in this life.

Even better, if God is bigger than we can perceive and that the Bible teaches us that God is love than his love is greater than we can imagine.
What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? Who shall bring a charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written: "For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter." Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:31-39 NKJV
Another thing about God is that He is omniscient, that is He knows all.
Remember the former things of old, For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me, Declaring the end from the beginning, And from ancient times things that are not yet done, Saying, 'My counsel shall stand, And I will do all My pleasure,' Isaiah 46:9-10
He counts the number of the stars; He calls them all by name. Great is our Lord, and mighty in power; His understanding is infinite. Psalm 147:4-5 NKJV
The eyes of the LORD are in every place, Keeping watch on the evil and the good.  Proverbs 15:3 NKJV
It may seem scary that God knows everything, but it is actually an encouragement.  In our lives, we will all face problems that come up with no warning whatsoever. We can take comfort in God's omniscience during those times.  Remember there are no surprises for God.  Whatever crisis you are facing, God knew it was going to happen from before the foundations of the Earth.  He knew about it and had a plan ready for it as well.  While His plans may not be our plan (at least in the flesh), we need to put our trust in God who has perfect Wisdom.  We also need to trust in the fact that God knows the end from the beginning and that no matter how things seem in our present, they will ultimately work out for our good and His glory as long as we abide in His Will.
For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother's womb.
I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.
My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, The days fashioned for me, When as yet there were none of them.
How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them!
If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand; When I awake, I am still with You.  Psalm 139: 13-18 NKJV
What's amazing is that God is filled with perfect wisdom yet still chooses to think about us!
"Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father's will. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. " Matthew 10:29-31 NKJV
God is also omnipresent, that God is everywhere all at once.
Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence?
If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there.
If I take the wings of the morning, And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
Even there Your hand shall lead me, And Your right hand shall hold me.  Psalm 139:7-10 NKJV
"Am I a God near at hand," says the LORD, "And not a God afar off? Can anyone hide himself in secret places, So I shall not see him?" says the LORD; "Do I not fill heaven and earth?" says the LORD. Jeremiah 23:23-24 NKJV
For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, And He ponders all his paths.  Proverbs 5:21 NKJV
You can not flee from the presence of God.  Jonah tried to run from God and look what happened to him.  But again, this is also an encouragement.    Think about the vastness of creation and that God exists everywhere in Creation and not only exists now but exists at all times.  God wasn't anywhere, He is there.  God will not be anywhere, He is there.  What I mean is that God, being ever-present, is present at all times.  God does not merely know the past, He exists in the past.  God does not have some crystal ball where he merely predicts the future, He is there!  That is one of the great mysteries of God.  What we perceive as time is all part of God's creation.  God exists not just in creation but also outside creation.  While we are bound to the present, God is not so bound.  To God, everything happened, is happening, and will happen all at once. I know that is impossible to understand, but remember our minds can not comprehend the things of God.  But despite God being everywhere and at all times, He chooses to dwell with you.   No matter where you are or what you are going through, God is there with you.  I do not mean as some general "force" like you see in Star Wars or as some concept that some eastern religions teach that their god is in everything, but He is present and very real and very personal way.
But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.  Romans 8:11 NKJV
And, finally, God is omnipotent, that is God is all-powerful.
And I heard, as it were, the voice of a great multitude, as the sound of many waters and as the sound of mighty thunderings, saying, "Alleluia! For the Lord God Omnipotent reigns!  Revelations 19:6 NKJV
'Ah, Lord GOD! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. There is nothing too hard for You.  Jeremiah 32:17 NKJV
But Jesus looked at them and said, "With men it is impossible, but not with God; for with God all things are possible."  Mark 10:27 NKJV
God created the heavens and the earth and all that is in them and He did it by just speaking it all into existence.  From countless stars more powerful than our own sun to things so small we can barely see it with the best of our technology, God's power created it all.  There is no end to God's power.  What an encouragement to know that the Almighty God is MY Father!  Let that be an encouragement to you!  I shared earlier in the post that if God is for us, who can be against us.  Think about that.  God is for YOU!  God loves you as His child!  The same God who created the heavens and the earth and holds more power in His hands than the Universe can contain promises Himself to strengthen you.
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13 NKJV
And if God giving you strength is still not enough, let Him BE your strength:
GOD is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1 NKJV
Our God is awesome.  When I think about God and all His might and I think that even I, as insignificant as I am, am important enough for Him to send His son to die for me, I am amazed beyond words.  Think about what we read today and how it applies to our lives.  Think about how God not only knows every sin we have committed, are committing, and will commit but He was right there with us as we were doing it.  We know that God can at any just just hit the "reset" button and start all over with new and more obedient creation.  But despite all that, despite knowing how much we would fail Him, despite knowing our sin would send His Son to the Cross; He created us.  Not only did He create us, but He loves us.  Not only does He love us, but He sent His son to die for us so that we, as undeserving and rebellious as we are, can have an close intimate relationship with Him.  I don't understand God's love and mercy.  I can't comprehend how for all the times I have failed God, He still sustains me, loves me, forgives me, and cares for me.  His love and mercy, for me, are everything.  Without them, I am nothing.  With them, I am a child of the Living God.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.  1 Peter 1:3-5 NKJV

  2. What a beautiful picture of how awesome He is! We trust a God who quietly whispers to a sinner's heart and yet the Word says His voice is like the sound of mighty waters! INDESCRIBABLE!!
