Over the past several years several denominations have fallen to the point where they allow homosexual bishops, pastors, and even marriages.  We also saw such big Christian music names as Ray Boltz and Jennifer Knapp come out as unrepentant homosexuals.  We have on the other extreme churches like Westboro Baptist Church with pastors like Fred Phelps come out on the other extreme saying that God hates homosexuals.  I will not so much address the latter as they are a fringe group that I do not want to give attributing any relevance to their position by spending the time to refute it.  I pray for Mr. Phelps and his family that they may find the grace and forgiveness from God that they deny to others.  What I want to address  is the issue of homosexuality in the church, which is becoming more and more of a problem.

First here is what God says:
'You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination.  Leviticus 18:22 NKJV
If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them.  Leviticus 20:13 NKJV
Those passages are clear as day.  I should be able to stop writing now, but I can't.  The homosexual apologist says that those verse are Old Testament law and much like eating shellfish or wearing clothes if mixed fabrics it does not apply to us.  In fact, those are the same comparisons that Jennifer Knapp made.  The argument seems to pose a challenge on its face, but it falls apart once you look deeper into things.  There is a difference between ceremonial law and moral law.  Furthermore, if you accept that argument regarding Leviticus 18:22 and Leviticus 20:13, then do you have have to accept it regarding Leviticus 18:23 and 20:15?
Nor shall you mate with any animal, to defile yourself with it. Nor shall any woman stand before an animal to mate with it. It is perversion.  Leviticus 18:23 NKJV
If a man mates with an animal, he shall surely be put to death, and you shall kill the animal.  Leviticus 20:15 NKJV
We see here that their argument has consequences.  Their argument justifies bestiality.  Surely God did not intend for Christians to be able to mate with animals, but if we can ignore the verses on homosexuality we ave to also ignore the verses on beastiality.  Surely their argument holds no merit.

Next the homosexual will say that it is not that cut and dry.  There are multiple sexual practices that were not accepted then that are accepted now.  That is argument is unsustainable.  They examples given are stoning for adultery or stoning for a woman not being a virgin before her wedding.  First of all, premarital sex is still a sin as is adultery.  Just because we do not stone people for them anymore, does not mean it is not sin.  No Christian condones stoning of homosexuals yet we still consider it to be sin, just like the others.

The final issue they use regarding the Old Testament is saying that it says that it is a sin to use birth control and yet many Christian husbands and wives do it today.  Here is the passage they reference:
And Judah said to Onan, "Go in to your brother's wife and marry her, and raise up an heir to your brother." But Onan knew that the heir would not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in to his brother's wife, that he emitted on the ground, lest he should give an heir to his brother. And the thing which he did displeased the LORD; therefore He killed him also. Genesis 38:8-10 NKJV
They usually skip the first part about Onan's obligation in order to twist Scripture to prove their point.  The sin was not the "spilling of the seed," it was the deception of Onan.  He had an obligation and pretended to fulfill it all the while acting deceptively.  This verse has nothing to do with birth control, unless you are lying to your spouse about it.

Even with that, even with all I just said, the homosexual apologists' entire argument is premised on the "It's ok for me to do this because you do that."  As we have seen in a recent post, we are not to judge our righteousness on what other people do or do not do.  It is not about what I fail at or what anyone else may fail at when you stand before God.  The homosexual needs to compare his or herself to God's Word not to me or anyone else and God's Word is clear.

Now let's address the New Testament as the final argument for the homosexual apologist is that we are under the New Covenant.  Here are the applicable New Testament verses:
Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 NKJV
For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due. Romans 1:26-27 NKJV
Homosexual apologists like to play with the translation of 1 Corinthians saying that it does not actually refer to homosexuality.  However, their argument fails when compared with Romans 1, the Old Testament, and the fact that while the literal translation is "abusers of themselves with mankind" it was the Greek word used to denote homosexuality.  Homosexuality is condemned in the New Testament.

Almost out of arguments, homosexual apologists will then say that say that Jesus never mentions homosexuality.  True, he does not specifically mention homosexuality.  Nor does he mention rape or incest.  And to refer back to our discussion on the Old Testament, Jesus does not mention bestiality either.  It is a silly and desperate argument to base the righteousness of what you do because our Lord never specifically mentions it.   Just think of the sins you could justify!

Homosexual apologists also argue that the Bible does not address homosexuality as we understand it today.  They claim that they did not know it as a "sexual orientation" at the time.  That claim denies the divine source of Scripture.  That is saying that God did not know homosexual apologists would come about today and try to convince us that they were born that way.  God knew full well your claim and rejected it.  He knows the truth because He created you and He knows He did not create you homosexual.

And, finally, we have the "love" argument.  We are called judgmental and unloving.  Lies are not love and truth is not judgment.  The homosexual apologist speaks lies that what they are doing is fine with God.  They are leading people to Hell.   As for me, I am speaking Truth from God's Word and in love.  I preach hope that God can and will deliver you from a sinful fallen dangerous lifestyle if only you come to Jesus and accept His free gift of salvation.  Then all you need to do is abide in Him and allow Him to work in you.  Yes, He loves you just the way you are and yes you are welcome in any real church.  The thing is, we love you for real, we love you too much to allow you to continue to destroy yourself.  We love you enough to tell you what you need to hear not what you want to hear. We want you to be saved and Jesus is waiting to rejoice with the angels in Heaven at your repentance.

If you are struggling with homosexuality, I want to leave you with the rest of that passage from 1 Corinthians 6:
And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.  1 Corinthians 6:11 NKJV
And for the pastors who preach the lie that homosexuality is not a sin and to those pastors who live openly in that sin, I urge you to repent or step down.  You have no authority under God to hold your position.  You are leading people with a false Gospel.  You are leading people to Hell and you will stand before God and give an account of that.

Yes God does love homosexuals, but, just like any other sin, God hates homosexuality.  God will remove that sin from you but first you must admit that what you are doing is sinful.  That is confession.  God will help you repent, but first you have to confess.  God loves you too much to see you in a lifestyle that is destructive and one that will rob you of your reward in Heaven.  Love God more than your sin and your relationship with Him will be so much better than any sinful relationship you can imagine. True love from God is the only real true love.  Don't cheat yourself of that.
Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord Acts 3:19 NKJV
