The Ocean

Greetings everyone from beautiful Corolla in the Outer Banks of North Carolina.  My posts (for which many of you will be thankful for) will be somewhat shorter this week than usual.  I do have to say though that sitting here on the top floor out over the upper deck and seeing the beautiful Atlantic Ocean I once again have a great appreciation for the beauty that God has created.

Of course anyone who knows anything about the Outer Banks knows that this very calm beautiful ocean can become a picture of God's wrath.  That same water that looks so calm and peaceful can also be destructive and deadly.  The ocean is both a picture of the beautiful grace of God and the power and fury of God.  The ocean is teaming with life and sustains our life through its abundant resources is the same ocean that can devastate the lives of people and communities when stirred.

The ocean can keep you afloat on calm waves or sink you with huge swells.  The ocean can lap gently at your feet or know you down flat.   How true is this for our lives with God.  God can keep us and sustain us or God can sink us.  And just like with the ocean, if we turn our backs on God, don't give God the proper respect, or step out too far in pride, God can knock us down.

Many people like to stare out at the beautiful calm ocean as they do at the sweet grace of God.  But we must always keep in mind that if we do not respect that same ocean, if we do not know that ocean and its ways, and if we do not heed its warnings when trouble is coming, we will see be jeopardy of facing its fury.  Just like if we do not know God or listen to His warnings, and if we do not give him the level of respect only He deserves, we will one face face his wrath.   Please know God, know His grace, know His mercy, and most importantly know His Son.  God's son is your life raft for the judgment that will one day come upon this earth.  Without Him, there is no hope of rescue.

I know on days like today with a bright clear sky and beautiful calm ocean it is hard to think about the judgment that one day this earth will face.  But just like that calm day in Phuket Thailand a few years ago with a bright clear sunny sky, tragedy can come when you least expect it.  Little did anyone know that in an instant that beautiful day would turn into a nightmare tragedy taking the lives of over 100,000 people.  There was no warning, there was no sign, there was just one giant wave.

No one knows when the Lord will return.  No one knows when God's wrath will come upon the earth.  But it will come, and it will come when you can't possible expect it.  Find Jesus now while there is time.  Find your life raft and take heart that when God does pour His wrath out upon the earth or if it your time to stand before Him, you will be saved.
The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. 2 Peter 3:9-10 NKJV
