Raw Chicken and Vacation Revisited.

This week I am going to revisit vacation hopefully one last time.  Last night, my wife and I took a couple of nephews out crabbing and I was reminded of our crabbing time down in North Carolina.  We used raw chicken for bait.  Now as many of you know, raw chicken is apparently one step above toxic waste considering the precautions we took.  We limited who can touch it, not to touch anywhere near your mouth if you do touch it, not to touch anything that can conceivable be eaten after you touch it, and as soon as possible find a bar of soap and super hot water to wash your hands from touching it.  Of course all this was done to prevent infection from one of the several kinds of bacteria that may have been living on the chicken.  We did not want anyone getting sick and so we were careful (probably overly so) to make sure that no one contaminated themselves or others.

What amazes me is that we do not take the same level of care in our spiritual lives.  There are times where instead of avoiding touching spiritual "raw chicken", we practically rub it all over ourselves.  What I mean by spiritual "raw chicken" are those things that we allow into our lives that may lead to sin.  Those things can be the kind of music we listen to or the movies we watch.  It can be the kinds of friends we choose to spend our time with.  It can be anything that take away from God being the center of our lives.  And like raw chicken to our physical lives, these things can make us sick spiritually.

We need to be careful what we allow into our lives.  Music and other entertainment that glorify sin are contaminated and if we allow them into our minds we are contaminating ourselves.  Friends that become more an example to wrong than we are to them of right are contaminated and as long as we hang with them we are getting sicker and sicker.  Anything in our lives that glorifies sin that we partake of is endangering our spiritual welfare.

The next time you are faced with something that can plant the seeds of spiritual sickness in your life, remember raw chicken and take the proper precautions in disposing such filth from your life.  Don't get sick spiritually.
And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: "I will dwell in them And walk among them. I will be their God, And they shall be My people." Therefore "Come out from among them And be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, And I will receive you. I will be a Father to you, And you shall be My sons and daughters, Says the LORD Almighty." Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.  2 Corinthians 6:16-7:1 NKJV
