The Beauty of Orchids, The Artistry of God

Today I had the chance to sell orchids at an orchid show for my wife's family.  I love the chance to be out there meeting new people and a show like that certainly gives you the chance.  Orchids, as almost any collector will tell you, are addictive things.  People get lost in their beauty and even though they bloom once or twice a year, the care, effort, and money invested into each plant is well worth while.  People feel that just being able to enjoy the beauty of the orchid flowers for a few weeks each year is worth the time, money, and effort it takes to care for the orchid.

The ironic thing is that the beauty of the orchid is not dependent on the level of care you put into them.  All the effort put into them is only a replacement for what they would receive naturally in their own environment.  All you are really doing is keeping the plant alive in an artificial environment to allow the plant to just do what it does naturally.  If you give them the right amount of light and water then can bloom time and time again year after year.  You do not even need to remind it of its time to bloom.  You do not need to give it instructions on what the flowers should look like.  You do not need to do anything but just allow the plant to do what it does.  When it is time to bloom, it will grow its flower stalks, buds will form, and beautiful flowers will unfurl.  All of this happens with no worry or effort on the part of the plant.  The plant does not shop for materials, it does not strain or stress.  It just grows.  The plant does not even have a brain to worry or think about what it has to do.  It just happens with no forethought or effort.  that is how perfect the system put in place by God is.  God made it so a brainless blind plant and just grow naturally flowers so beautiful that the world's best painters and sculptors fail to capture its beauty in its entirety.

Yes, orchids are something to be admired, but it is our God who should be worshiped.  God created that beauty and made it for us that we may enjoy it time and again year after year.  Praise God for the beauty of creation.  Praise Him that we get to lose ourselves in the beauty of things that just happen naturally as a result of systems set up by God at creation.  Praise God  that the beauty His creation is still the standard that all the world's greatest artists strive but never completely succeed achieve.
Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Luke 12:27 NKJV
