Presbyterian Church USA .. What is This You Have Done?

Today I am going to address something very troubling that happened in the Christian church in America last week.  It is about a church who crossed a line that is heading that denomination headlong into apostasy.  It is one thing to say that sin will no longer be punished or that all sin was forgiven whether or not your are in Christ (as I addressed last week), but this church is denying that sin is even sin.  What I am talking about is what the Presbyterian Church USA (PCUSA) has done in order to allow practicing homosexuals to act as pastor.  While that is bad enough on its own, they went one step further.  They deleted a certain part of their constitution that said that all pastors should live in "fidelity within the covenant of marriage between a man and a woman or chastity in singleness."  I did not realize the implications of such a stand until the pastor at the church I was at this last Sunday explained it.  You see, in most places homosexuals can not be married.  In that, they can not meet the marriage requirement even if they delete the part about it being between a man and a woman.  With that, a homosexual could serve as a pastor, but only if he is not living in that sin.  In other words, he could not practice homosexuality and be a pastor at the same time.  Of course that is the way it should be, but they disagreed.  In order to be "fair" and "loving" to homosexuals who want to have a relationship and serve as a pastor, they have taken away the chastity in singleness requirement.  Therefore, by their argument, a homosexual can be free to have a sexual relationship with a man (or men as there is no monogamy requirement) and still act as a pastor. This also opens the door to a whole host of other sexual sin to be practiced by their pastors.  You could have a philandering pastor, who dates and sleeps with a new woman every week.  You could have a pastor who just wants to have premarital sex with whatever woman he is with at the time.  You could probably even have an adulterous pastor who cheats on his own wife and has relations with the wife of another.  In other words, fornication has become acceptable in the PCUSA.  God, however, disagrees.
But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints;  Ephesians 5:3 NKJV
Not only fornication a sin, but it should not even be named among us.  PCUSA is now not only allowing it to be named among them, but welcoming it to be named among those who lead them!  What kind of examples is that to the rest of the flock, what kind of example is that even to the world?  Let me share a couple of other verses about how God feels about fornicators.
Marriage [is] honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge.  Hebrews 13:4
Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.  1 Corinthians 6:9-10 NKJV
I know that in Christ, our sins are forgiven by His sacrifice.  Please do not think that I am using these examples to in some way say that if anyone in Christ does any of these things, he or she will be judged.  If that were true, we would all be judged.  But in Christ, these should no longer be a regular practice in our lives.  It is one thing to be tripped up in sin, it is another to embrace it as your chosen "lifestyle."  And that is what PCUSA has done.  They have embraced behavior that God will judge.  The fact that this so-called church is allowing behavior that is an abomination to God to be practiced openly by those whom they select to lead their churches should be appalling to anyone in Christ.  Do you understand what I just said?  They are not just accepting sin, they are embracing it! They are loving what God hates.  They are modeling examples that God says will take you right into Hell.  They are promoting teachers who disagree with the very thing they are called to teach!

We all know that pastors generally incorporate their lives into their messages.  They may incorporate the prior week's experiences, something they are planning,  things about their families, or things from their pasts.  This helps give some context to the message and helps everyone know the pastor a little more. A church is family and so a pastor should not be aloof.  Can you imagine, though, as part of that practice your pastor talked about his shoplifting exploits the prior week?  Or maybe he can talk about how drunk he was at a party the night before and how much fun it was.  Maybe he can allude to his vast pornography collection for an anecdote for the day's message.  Perhaps he can talk about a fight in a bar he was just in and bragged on how he beat some other man down.  Of course it is unthinkable that a pastor in any church would talk glowingly of the sin still in his life.  But that is exactly what will happen now.  Now we will have PCUSA pastors talking about a romantic weekend away with his homosexual partner.  Maybe he can talk about how many nights that he and his girlfriend spend together.  Maybe he can make a joke about how it is hard to keep the names straight of his several girlfriends.  Even worse, maybe he can just flirt right from the pulpit.

That is what the PCUSA church has become.  They have become a den of celebrated sin.  They now embrace was God judges.  They now celebrate what God finds to be an abomination.  Instead of fleeing sexual immorality, the now see it as a viable model for their followers to follow.  They have not only rejected the judgement of sin, but rejected the very idea of sin itself.  They call themselves loving, but their recent actions show just how much they do not love God.  The call themselves loving, but their lies will only serve to lead others right into Hell.  The Bible declares that judgement begins at the house of God, I hope PCUSA heads that warning.
Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Isaiah 5:20 NKJV
