A Thought For a Lazy Summer Afternoon

I do not have much planned for today.  In fact, I do not have any real post planned for today.  What I have is a passage in Scripture for us all to meditate upon.  Sometimes we think that what God expects of us is too burdensome.  We sometimes thing He is oppressive.  Some even take it to the level of saying we should feel that way.  Of course that is just a convenient excuse to allow them to sin while still claiming they are right with God.  The fact is that if the Beatitudes, Sermon on the Mount, and even the very idea of obedience itself seems legalistic or burdensome, then your problem is not with the Word of God but with your heart. You see, for the Child of God who is abiding in Jesus and filled with the Holy Spirit, those things are a joy.  Psalm 1 says it best "I will delight in the law of the Lord."  If that is not your heart then you need to ask just who owns your heart.
Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves Him who begot also loves him who is begotten of Him. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome. 1 John 5:3 NKJV
