Israel Is Our National Security

Today is another busy day so today will be another quick post.  Today there is a news story that our national Defense Secretary, Leon Panetta, is warning the nation of Israel that she is facing additional isolation and should negotiate (in other words, give up more land) to its terrorist neighbors.  It seems the current government of our nation is turning its back on God's chosen people.  Sure they make some token gestures of friendship, but that is mostly out of reelection concerns.  They may fool many people with empty gestures, but they are not fooling God.  God knows their heart and God knows that those hearts have turned against His nation.  Perhaps you think that God will not hold an entire nation accountable for the actions of its leaders, but the Bible tells us a different story.  Let us look at what happened when David disobeyed God and counted the people of Israel.
And David's heart condemned him after he had numbered the people. So David said to the LORD, "I have sinned greatly in what I have done; but now, I pray, O LORD, take away the iniquity of Your servant, for I have done very foolishly." Now when David arose in the morning, the word of the LORD came to the prophet Gad, David's seer, saying, "Go and tell David, 'Thus says the LORD: "I offer you three [things]; choose one of them for yourself, that I may do [it] to you." ' " So Gad came to David and told him; and he said to him, "Shall seven years of famine come to you in your land? Or shall you flee three months before your enemies, while they pursue you? Or shall there be three days' plague in your land? Now consider and see what answer I should take back to Him who sent me." 2 Samuel 24:10-13 NKJV
We see here that David committed the sin, but God is going to take His wrath out on the entire nation.  Maybe you think that is not fair, but let me tell you why it is fair.  The people let it happen.  The people knew it was wrong.  Joab even tried to talk David out of it, but went along with it anyway.  The nation and those under David who performed the counting were all complicit in David's sin in that they allowed it to happen and even took part in it.  When it comes to God, there is no such thing as "I was just following orders."  David inspired the entire nation to sin and the entire nation paid the price for it.  There are countless other examples in the Bible of nations that faced judgement for the actions of a few.  What we need to realize, though, is that while the precipitating action was done by just a few people, the rest of the nation was not all that much better.  The one act or one cited act was merely the straw the broke the camel's back, a back that was going to break anyway.  The question we really need to ask ourselves is not why God judged a whole nation based on the actions of a few, but why God did not judge that nation based upon the actions of just about every person for sins already committed.

So let us now take those lessons and apply it to America today.  Our president and his administration are coming against Israel like no other administration has for a very long time.  While they may be the ones committing this crime against God, we are the ones who elected them.  Furthermore, it is the congress that we elected that is allowing him.  They do pass their empty resolutions, but they really do not do much else  They do not understand that our national security is not based on how strong of an army we have, but in how much God chooses to protect us from harm.  Once God takes that hand of protection away, no army in the world will be able to save us.  You can not fight God's wrath, you can only plead for His mercy.  We often think that God loves us too much to judge us, but we forget that God judged His own chosen people and sent them into exile.  I do not think we realize just how much we are on the brink of judgement.  This brings us to my other point.  Our nation is not a shining beacon of light for Jesus.  While our churches do send out missionaries to the world, our businesses send out an even larger amount of porn and other filth.  We export more trash than we do anything else.  Even within our borders, porn, drugs, violence, sexually explicit entertainment being marketed to children, divorce, abortion, and just about every other kind of vice you can think of is flourishing.  If God does judge our nation for Israel, we should not be blaming Obama for getting us into this mess, but wondering why God took so long to judge us in the first place.

Time is running short, and it is only the church that holds the answer to our nation's imminent judgement.  We must be the light to this dark and fallen nation and we must do so before it is too late.  Our nation has had amazing awakenings and revivals sweep though in the past so there is no reason to think it can not happen again.  Our churches must get on message about the consequence of sin and the hope that is in Jesus Christ.  In David's case, seventy thousand men and women of Israel perished for David's decision to count the nation.  There is no telling how many lives and souls that we can save by preaching that message to our nation now.  We all remember the horrors of 9/11, but that is merely a drop in the bucket compared to what will happen should the wrath of God be poured out upon us.  Time is running short and it runs shorter each day that passes. We do not know when that time will come when God will say "Enough!"  We must pray for our nation, but not the flippant "God bless America" we are used to saying, but "God have mercy on America."  We must preach the message of sin and redemption and the hope that is in Jesus Christ.  And, finally, we must not be part of the problem of turning ourselves against Israel or turning to lives of sin.  We are the only ones who know the way to save America, it is time now to start living it.
For the time [has come] for judgment to begin at the house of God; and if [it begins] with us first, what will [be] the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God? Now "If the righteous one is scarcely saved, Where will the ungodly and the sinner appear?" Therefore let those who suffer according to the will of God commit their souls [to Him] in doing good, as to a faithful Creator.  1 Peter 4:17-19 NKJV
