Christians By Their Own Rules

One thing that really gets me angry is when people portray themselves as Christian but think they can disagree with the Word of God.  They do this in many ways, but the reason is almost always the same.  People want their own god, made in their own likeness, upholding their own sense of right and wrong, and who does not impose too much into their lives.  I wish those who believed such nonsense would stop calling themselves Christian.  Today I am going to use one short passage that should be a question than anyone who calls himself a Christian yet feels some undying need to disagree with the Word of God whenever it conflicts with what they think is right and wrong.
But why do you call Me 'Lord, Lord,' and not do the things which I say?  Luke 6:26 NKJV
You see, if Jesus is not your Lord, He is not your Savior.  If Jesus is not your Savior, He is your judge.  In that we must examine whether or not Jesus is truly our Lord.  Part of accepting Jesus as Lord, is accepting the entire Word of God as God's word.  Jesus affirmed the validity of the entirety of the Old Testament scriptures as the Word of God during his time on earth and we all know the New Testament to also be the Word of God.  This is not up for debate.   The Bible is the Word of God.

This is the reason I stopped watching Bill O'Reilly some time ago.  I was able to deal with his blowhard arrogance where his response to losing points is to shout louder than his "guest," but when this so-called Catholic declares that he has "problems" with the Old Testament, I had to draw the line.  I will not support someone who blasphemes the Word of God.  I am not meaning to pick on Mr. O'Reilly specifically, but he is a very good illustration of this point.  He likes the lovey-dovey God, but rejects God as judge.  In fact, he generally attacks anyone who ever references the judgement of God.  This was particularly true after 9/11.  Of course, if one does not believe 9/11 to be an act of warning or judgement of God on America, then what do you believe?  Did God fall asleep and let this one slip by Him?  Did God stop caring and just let things happen as they did?  Does God just not exist?  Or did God, for whatever reasons He may have had, allow 9/11 to happen?  If you accept the Old Testament as the Word of God, there is no confusion.  If you reject God as judge, then 9/11 becomes a great source of confusion.  If you reject God as judge and the judgement of the world to come, then you not only reject the examples and prophesies of the Old Testament, but you also reject several epistles, the book of Revelation, and much of the prophesy Jesus Himself about the great and terrible Day of the Lord to come.  Either way, that is just one point.  For people like Mr. O'Reilly who "disagree" with something God may have done or some part of His word, here is what God says.
"Shall the one who contends with the Almighty correct [Him]? He who rebukes God, let him answer it."  Job 40:2 NKJV
Moving along, there are many areas where many people disagree with the Word of God.  Please note I am not talking about those times all of us disobey God's word.  We are all guilty of that, that is why we confess our sins with the knowledge and faith that God will forgive us our sins.  I am talking about those who would sin or disagree with the Word of God.  The difference is that when we mess up, we know it and accept it and work to change it, whereas those who disagree with God will not even admit that what they did was a sin.  In their minds, it is not a sin.  In their minds, God has somehow changed His mind and what was once considered sin is either something God used to think or something not relevant to today's society.

A perfect example of this is the growing acceptance of homosexuality in our churches.  There are many churches not who not only do not accept homosexuality as a sin, but even go so far as to bless and even officiate homosexual marriages.  Some churches even allow homosexuals to be pastors of their churches.  The Word of God is clear, but they decided that God was somehow wrong or misunderstood when He gave His word.   Other common areas are churches that feel it is somehow wrong to teach righteous living or that we should have any concern for the sin in our lives (despite the fact that God through Paul wrote much on righteous living and the importance and expectations of righteous living in the epistles to churches to be read to Christians).  Some churches believe that women should now be pastors (despite the Bible clearly saying that women are not to have that position in church).  There are many other examples, but I am sure you are getting the point.

Those are the big ones that most of us can get behind, but there are others that are much more pervasive.  How many Christian singles think they know better and disagree with God when He says that we should not be unequally yoked with a nonbeliever. Some ignore it altogether and think they can win someone for Christ by being an example of disobedience.  What makes this even worse is that some pastors will even officiate a wedding between a believer and a nonbeliever.  Speaking of relationships, fornication is another area where we tend to disagree with God.  Far too many who call themselves Christian redefine the meaning of fornication to mean anything other than intercourse is fine and even cross that last line if the person is "special" or they are in "love."  Funny, I do not recall lust, I mean "love," being a reason to sin.  Another common area is drinking,  Far too many Christians do not accept that getting drunk is a sin.  Again, I am not talking about those who sin but those who disagree that what they are doing is even wrong.

One are that gets me the most angry is politics.  President Obama claims to be a Christian yet defends persecution against Christians and he is pro choice.  How can you call yourself Christian yet be in favor of allowing the slaughter of unborn children?  And this goes for every other pro-choice candidate who has the audacity to call themselves by the name of Jesus.  Not to be one-sided, but you also have President Bush who did nothing to stop or slow down the rate of abortion, said that Jesus was not the only way to Heaven, prayed at pagan sites, and hosted a Muslim religious dinner.  Are you kidding?  Does Jesus make provision for us to worship false gods?  Did Jesus not say that NO MAN comes to the Father but through Him?  And I do not just mean politicians, but those who sit in pews on Sundays and vote for a baby killer on election Tuesday.  Perhaps they should pray Monday, but I can not see how they can possibly justify their position.  Catholic or Protestant it makes no difference as politics take priority over the Word of God.  I have news for you, if you are in favor of allowing the slaughter of children and do not see the moral issue with that, I do not see how you can be a Christian.  I am not judging, but I am questioning.  I am judging the fruit of your actions because when politicians ride into office on the vote of Christians (which is the only way someone can get elected) and the fruit is the slaughter of babies then what does that say?  Considering atheists make up about 2% of our population, it is not them who are electing candidates who promote sin.  Considering 76% of this nation calls themselves some kind of Christian, it is impossible to win any election without a significant amount of Christians voting for that person.  Christians vote for those who promote homosexuality, abortion, and other forms of sin.  They should be utterly ashamed.

Take heed, if you are Christian then Jesus is your Lord.  If Jesus is not your Lord, you are not Christian.  If Jesus is your Lord, it is not for you to make up your own rules of what is right and wrong or what you want or do not want to accept about God. The reality is that right and wrong are whatever God says it is.  You do not get to question or change that.  He is the Creator not you.  The same sin you promote with your voice, your money, your time, and your vote are the same sins that God will judge the world for.  You can deny that judgement is coming all you want, it does not make it any less true.  Stop trying to redefine God to your own liking but rather allow yourselves to be conformed to the image of our Lord.  And, quite honestly, if you are going to deny the Word of God then stop calling yourself a Christian.  You are only either deceiving yourself or bringing shame to the Lord you claim to love.
I am the Alpha and the Omega, [the] Beginning and [the] End, the First and the Last. Blessed [are] those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city.  But outside [are] dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a lie.  Revelation 22:13-15 NKJV
