Babylonian Americana

What would happen if today God sent a prophet to America to preach judgement on this nation lest we repent?  Would we repent?  Would we see our sin and and repent of what we are doing?  I wish I could say yes.  I wish I could say that this nation would repent.  Unfortunately, I can not say that.  Unfortunately, I believe that prophet would be ridiculed and rejected.  Just look at our recent history and you will see that fact.  Whenever anyone brings up any kind of warning or judgement from God, that person is portrayed as a hateful crazy bigoted person.  Most recently, this happened with the president of a certain restaurant.  I am not a prophet and I am not speaking for God in terms of what is to come.  We like to call ourselves a superpower.  We like to think that we are "too big to fail."  We like to claim American exceptionalism.  We think we are the greatest and most powerful nation in the world.  Today I will speak of America in the context of another superpower, that is Babylon.
"Therefore hear this now, [you who are] given to pleasures, Who dwell securely, Who say in your heart, 'I [am], and [there is] no one else besides me; I shall not sit [as] a widow, Nor shall I know the loss of children';  Isaiah 47:8 NKJV
Babylon was a very powerful nation.  It had an army that could not be stopped and who had conquered a good part of the known world.  It was rich beyond measure. It was home to such masterpieces of beauty and engineering as the Hanging Gardens of Babylon (one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World).  They were seemingly invincible.  They were seemingly the most powerful and prosperous nation on earth.  God even rose them up to overthrow Jerusalem and take His own chosen people into captivity.

This power, however, led to arrogance.  First, they were given to pleasures.  Babylon was a sinful nation.  In fact, Babylon is used as a symbol for sin in the Bible.  Babylon was given to pleasures then much as America is given to pleasures today.  Pornography is a booming business.  Homosexuality is becoming mainstream to where even people who claim to be Christians are supporting their lifestyle.  Divorce is over 50% and single-never-married parents are becoming more and more commonplace.  Family television today would have been considered risque just a few decades ago.  Even children's programming is becoming sexualized.  Adultery is becoming more and more widespread.  Adultery according to the standards of Jesus is just normal practice.  Revelry is a right of passage and drunkenness has become the normal way of celebrating just about everything, even Christian celebrations.  Sin is celebrated, encouraged, and taught to our children.

Like the Babylonians, we sit securely.  While we have experienced some attacks, our nation has never been successfully invaded and we defeat every army we face in battle.  We believe that our armed forces are unstoppable.  In the past few years, we have over taken several governments and have attacked other nations with impunity.  While we have some fear of terrorism on our shores, we certainly have no fear of any nation defeating us.  We feel invincible.  We feel powerful.  We are the the last so-called superpower in the world.  And in that we are also like the Babylonians.  We are and there are none else beside us.  We are the world superpower.  We are the elite.  We are the most powerful nation on the face of the earth.  There is no nation we fear in battle.  There is no nation we believe we can not defeat in war.
But these two [things] shall come to you In a moment, in one day: The loss of children, and widowhood. They shall come upon you in their fullness Because of the multitude of your sorceries, For the great abundance of your enchantments. For you have trusted in your wickedness; You have said, 'No one sees me'; Your wisdom and your knowledge have warped you; And you have said in your heart, 'I [am], and [there is] no one else besides me.'  Isaiah 47:9-10 NKJV
9/11 was a great warning for what God declared to Babylon.  In a moment, in a day, we lost children and loved ones in an attack that took our nation entirely by surprise.  That was a warning and a humbling.  We listened for a time and then we went back to our wicked ways.  That was a warning, that was not judgement.  The fullness of our judgement has not yet come.  The reasons it may come are the same as they were in Babylon.

First, Babylon trusted in her sorceries and her enchantments.  They trusted in false gods.  We have our own false gods.  I am not talking about the horoscopes in every newspaper and palm readers in every town that even Christians pay attention to.  In fact, our false gods are even worse because we live in a land where we create our own gods and in that our ultimate "god" is Self.  People no longer want a God whose image they were created in, they want a god created in their own image. No longer do people want to be accountable to God who sets the rules, but people want to set their own rules and create a god who accepts them.  Our new "god" accepts just about everything that makes us feel good.  This god has no problem with drunken revelry, fornication (as long as the two parties are in love, or not, it does not really matter), homosexuality, divorce, believing in whatever "higher power" one wants to, or anything else for that matter.  He is just a great old grandfather in the sky laughing at his children's misdeeds.  That is unless you do something really really bad and get sent to the party island known as Hell.  Even many of those who claim to believe in Jesus do not believe in the Biblical Jesus.  They believe in some New Age long-haired hippie who just loves on everyone no matter how sinful they are.  While it is true that Jesus did love and die for everyone, it is not true that Jesus accepts our behavior.  When Jesus was confronted with the adulterous woman, He forgave her, but He did not tell her to go out as she did before. He told her to go and sin no more.  There is no limit to the god of Self.  This so-called god even allows child sacrifice.  Only this child sacrifice is not to appease some angry god who demands such a wicked act, but to satisfy one's own desire for a care-free sinful life.  And our nation allows this!  And many in our nation want it to stay that way!

Next, we have become arrogant in our knowledge.  It has warped us.  We now worship the creation over the creator.  We put our trust in technology over God.  We feel no need for God.  We do not trust in God for healing, we trust in medicine.  I am not saying that we should no go to doctors or medicine, but we do not even feel the need to pray for healing or thank God for healing every time we are healed of any disease great or small.  We put our trust in our military over God's ability to protect us or take that protection away.  We put our trust in our money and resources over God's provision.  We put our trust in science and flawed observation of the natural world over the One who created nature.

We are an arrogant nation thinking we are above the judgement of God.  We think we are exceptional and even adhere to the idea of American exceptionalism. We feel our army is invincible.  We feel that we can bounce back from any calamity that comes our way.  We feel God loves us, but it is really us who loves us more than we love God.  We worship the god of Self. We bow to the god of Self.  We serve the god of Self.  We mock anyone who brings up the judgement of God and proudly proclaim for God to bless America as though we deserve it.  We should be crying out for mercy.  We should be in fear of judgement.  We should be repenting in sackcloth and ashes, but we won't.  Maybe deep down we know we are sinners in the hands of an angry God, but we would rather just not think about it.  We would rather just shop, fornicate, look at pornography, drink, make money, and escape reality through our entertainment.  I have a question, though, what will you do when God turns His attention to America?  Will our army defeat a nation to whom God has already given the victory?  Will our technology be able to stop an earthquake, hurricane, tornado, drought, or epidemic?  Will your horoscope tell you how to escape?  Will a palm reader tell you how to survive?  Will anything in creation be able to save you from the creator should He come calling?  God is coming to judge America, the only question is when.  Will He allow us to continue in our sin until the Great Tribulation or will His patience run out even sooner?

The door to salvation is wide open to everyone who repents and turns to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.  It is only Him who can save you from what is to come.  When judgement does come, it will come suddenly, relentlessly, and mercilessly.  The time for mercy is now.   The time to come to Jesus now when He is your savior and before you meet Him as your judge.
Therefore evil shall come upon you; You shall not know from where it arises. And trouble shall fall upon you; You will not be able to put it off. And desolation shall come upon you suddenly, [Which] you shall not know.  Isaiah 47:11 NKJV
